About the Artist
Jay Dee Dearness is an artist and designer living in Brisbane, Australia. As an artist she works across the mediums of photography and printmaking within the context of projection and public art. With a background in interiors, landscape and architectural design and much of her life spent on the move through living arrangements and travel, what constitutes place and identity have become burning questions. This is coupled with her pursuit of improved built forms through her work as a WELL consultant to the construction industry, focusing on how to create healthy and culturally inclusive environments.
Jay Dee enjoys engaging with specific contexts and communities through both her artwork and design practice, often collaborating with architects on pieces that enhance the cultural and community identity of built forms through biophilic and mindful cues. Her work is held in the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry, Artspace Mackay, various Australian State Libraries, the National Library of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia and collected by the State Library of Queensland. She also works closely with architects, developers and designers to create beautiful and mindful work to suite the built environment.
When not rock climbing, cycling, trekking and traveling, she can be found in South Brisbane with her custom designed mobile trishaw (the Naughty-Lass), activating space with her art projections!
